Welcome to The Drum Is A Women on-line newsletter of the Drumsong Institute. This the 3rd issue of the newsletter and the first electronic issue. The intention of the Drumsong Newsletter is to provide you with information about the museum collection, research, news of women who drum in the United States as well as our connection to women's folkloric, contemporary, sacred and secular drumming traditions throughout the world . We will feature stories and interviews, and explore various types of drums, percussion instruments, songs and playing techniques. Our vision is to expand the Drumsong Newsletter to include pod casts, videos, and discussion boards. We will keep the integrity of the conversation fresh, thought provoking and forward thinking. "We will present the DrumaMa™ award annually to women who have sustained the presence of women drummers through teaching, performing, and pioneering innovative community art & educational programs within the United States. It is important and its time to acknowledge and award women drummers " Please send your recommendations to womind@aol.com. Tell us about your drumming journeys and adventures.
